The City of Copenhagen is currently focusing on three primary initiatives: urban renewal for select identified neighborhoods; climate adaptation interventions to alleviate flooding, heat island, and biodiversity impacts; and incorporation of urban nature – with an integration of these three initiatives as an overarching goal. Nørrebro is a neighborhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood but lacks urban ecology, climate adaptation, and social infrastructure. Our site is split by two edges, one physical and one municipal. A rail line divides the site but also demarcates the edge between two neighborhoods. Our design, Nørrebro Plads, shifts and dissolves these edges utilizing a multi-functional approach that is playful yet innovative.
